I have been teaching IT skills to adults on a formal basis – through the 'evening class' structure of Devon County Council, currently called Adult & Community Learning, for twelve years. This has included many hours of CLAIT (Computer Literacy and Information Technology), CLAIT Plus and CLAIT Advanced through its various incarnations from RSA to OCR.
My favourite parts are creating student study notes to incorporate all assessment objectives and then actually teaching these skills to individual students or small groups.
I also teach beginners, improvers and advanced students all the Microsoft applications with Office 2000 and Office 2003. My main strength would be Word and I have created quite detailed student study notes on Word to support my students' learning needs.
More recently, the adult learning has turned towards e-Citizen and ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) which are moderated by the British Computer Society. This is a more structured syllabus.
My children have now left home so I can put in more hours. Currently, I do some private teaching on a one-to-one basis (at the student's home or my home), or leading small groups at my home.
